The process
- Search: preliminary availability and risk assessment
- Classes: select classes and subclasses for your goods/services
- Application: filed with CNIPA through a licensed Chinese agent
- Examination: formal and substantive review
- Publication: three-month opposition window
- Registration: certificate issued, ten-year term
Timeline
Without opposition, registration typically completes in about 9 to 12 months. A professional search before filing materially reduces refusal risk.
Foreign applicants
Foreign companies and individuals must file through a licensed Chinese trademark agent. Alternatively, a home registration can be extended to China via the Madrid Protocol — but direct filing gives faster, cleaner control in China.
What we need from you
- The mark (word, logo or both) as you use it
- Applicant name and address exactly as registered
- Your goods/services so we can map classes
- A signed power of attorney (simple form, no legalization)
